This sign looks to be a kind of finale for us.
But the sign really gives reason for pause, grateful reflection, and celebration.
Like fireworks at the end of a 4th of July concert, it tells of the climax of a full year
of anticipation.  It is not boasting of endings, but beginnings.

We are passing a baton, so-to-speak.
Just like a younger version of Ken and Deb more than 25 years ago, the

word "SOLD" is pronouncement that an excited, young Christian family waits eagerly
to experience the extraordinary joy that a home in the Colorado mountains will offer.
And for Ken and Deb, we move one step closer to the onset of our next Adventure in Faith.

Ken is still working on the build-out of this fancy, new Distribution Center.
He figured that if he parked the motorhome INSIDE the building
that he could beat those terrible Denver Metro rush hour commutes!

living small

[Ken 09/15/2015]  We are two months now into full-time living in our motorhome.  We continue to be impressed with how simple and comfortable the RV lifestyle is.  These days, there is a popular and growing subculture we’ve been watching from the sidelines.  It has a variety of names but we most often hear it referred to as “tiny living,” "minimal living," or, "living on the margin."  It’s all about living as "small" and "inexpensively" and in as eco-friendly a way as possible.  The premise is that if you live “big,” you have to work "big" (lots of hours, for lots of years, paying lots of taxes, and usually including a very long mortgage) which all results in leaving a "big" carbon footprint.  And when you live “small,” you don’t.

Tiny living does not mean living uncomfortably, denying you opportunity to see and do things, or starving to death.  There are some terrific outcomes when you live small.  In addition to reducing your carbon footprint, there is always the opportunity to change your outdoor wallpaper; you can have a unique sunrise and sunset every day if you want.  And you can easily be debt free.

Deb and I have been following a TV series about tiny living.  In the show, people build a stick-and-brick house on a trailer frame and pull it around.  Some have converted large, steel shipping containers into homes.  In our case, we chose to live “small” in a motorhome.  It’s easy for us.  We want to be able to move quickly and freely so that we can see and experience America in our unique way.  And along the road, we want to be able to stop and take on various faith-based volunteer activities.  As our living costs go down, our quality of life will go up.
Part of our Adventure is to search for a new home base.  We fully expect someday to [at least partly] abandon the RV lifestyle and move back into a home that is more concrete (pun intended).  It will be much smaller than our previous stick-and-brick homes.

Where will that new home base be?  We don’t know and it does not matter.  We don’t have a calendar that controls us anymore.  This Adventure is a Gift and we are thankful and we fully intend to make the most of it.  Similarly, our next plot of land on this earth will also be a Gift that we will be most thankful for and will make the most of. After our down-sizing this past summer, we have only a few possessions at this point in our life; that means there are lots of great possibilities for us.

Live small?  Heck yes!

    <MAP UPDATED NIGHTLY>

    "Us"

    Blissfully married in
1979 in southwest Ohio ...about 30 minutes later they were miles into their honeymoon trip to the Rocky Mountains.  They found careers that rooted them in Colorado soil for over 35 years, Deb as a CNA, administrator, and homemaker; Ken as a paralegal, HR officer, Vice President, and Chief Operating Officer.

Together, they are now on the biggest adventure of their lifetime - a mobile coast-to-coast lifestyle passionately interlaced with part-time ministry in fulfilling service to an  unbounded community

    of countless new friends.
