LIFE IN college station

[Ken & Deb 11/2019-202?]  This is going to be the season of maroon.  We will be in the motorhome in College Station, Texas, home to the very reddish-purple Texas A&M University. In the western part of Brazos County, in the near-rural, southwest corner of College Station, sits RV Haven Park and that will be Faith's new parking place - our next "FaithCamp."

In College Station, Ken will be serving in the financial office of the First Baptist Church. He will also be overseeing facilities and operations.  This will be a longer-than-typical commitment for us, but still fulfills our pledge to faith-based service by living in our motorhome during our time in College Station.  The Lord willing, we expect to be here for three years, or so.

Because we will be stationary for so long, we let Gadget pick the RV site based on how well the grass felt when she rolled in it.  She chose Site 4.  And then changed her mind to Site 2.  It's a good thing that our home has wheels, huh?

She was right.  Site 2 is a better site -- it has a nice front yard, better spacing between the neighbors, and a little late-evening shade.  We are within walking distance to the laundry facilities and sheltered from the road and dumpster noise just down the street.

If you come-a-looking for us, you will find us on the right-hand side, in the very first pull-through space after passing the park headquarters building.

[Ken & Deb, May-June 2020]  On our last trip, we noticed the front, drivers-side slide-out room would hang up when closing. It even fully jammed (the slide was out) once when we had to move the motorhome (that was not fun).  Since we planned to travel in August to Denver, we knew we had to get this repaired soon.

By now you have surely figured out our dilemma.  How do we drive Faith to the RV repair shop
with one of the slide-outs sticking thirty inches into the other lane on the highway?

A gracious and understanding RV shop came to our rescue by sending a crew to our campsite.  They worked on it for two days, and while they got the slide to move, they could not get it to stop jamming.

The job was going to be bigger than expected.  It seemed that all of the nylon glides that allow the room to lift before the hydraulic rams pull the slide into the shell of the motorhome had worn to nothing. An extreme case of "normal wear and tear" caused [no doubt] by the weight of all the tools we carried with us in our cross-country years with the SOWER Ministry.  We would need to take Faith to the repair shop after all; the job could not be done in the campsite.

After a couple weeks we managed to get an appointment and headed out. RV Source is about 25 miles north, near Hearne, Texas. I had visited their shop and saw first-hand that this dealer was highly competent.I was greatly impressed by the size of their shop, the scope of the jobs they were doing, and the number of RVs that were in their queue, waiting to be serviced.

Since we were going to repair the driver's-side slide, we decided it would be a good time to get the passenger-side slide done, too. We made plans to leave Faith at RV Source for a couple days.  At the time, that was the estimated time to make the repairs.  What was kinduv fun about the shop was that they let us stay in Faith at night.  So we got to enjoy some country living in a quiet and beautiful RV sales lot for a few days. Gadget liked the bunnies.
Well, two days turned into three.  And three days turned into four.  The mechanics had to completely disassemble the slide mechanism on both sides of the RV to do the job.  In fact, they removed each of the four, eight-foot long hydraulic assemblies from Faith and took them into the shop to be rebuilt on the bench.  That left the slide-out rooms just kinduv dangling there, propped-up only by large jacks.

Though it was a lot of work (more than anybody expected) the team at RV Source prevailed -- our slides now work like new!  Our highly-appreciative and heartfelt thanks go out to the whole team at RV Source, including the Service Manager and the Shop Foreman.  As far as we are concerned, they each went beyond the call of duty to get us back on-the-road.

Thank You RV Source!  We were in good hands.
